“I joined the Garrett Network in December of 2002. Their fee-only compensation model and emphasis on working with folks from all walks of life were things that highly resonated with me. In addition, I was attracted by the support available from a turn-key program such as marketing, compliance and business operations, but especially by the start-up support available for the initial state advisor registration and business launch. My original expectations have been met and, oh, much, much more.

In addition to the valuable assistance that I mentioned previously, perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of membership for me has been the sharing of a wealth of knowledge among members on the discussion board. As an example I recently ran across a unique investment holding in one of my client’s portfolios and I was not familiar with it. I posted a query to all of the Garrett membership asking if anyone had seen or was familiar with this particular investment and almost immediately I received several informed responses that helped me better assess the holding and formulate my recommendation for the client. The broad background, diversity and ability to tap into the collective wisdom of the Garrett members are a huge plus.

I choose to remain a Garrett member for several reasons. Although I am no longer in the crucial start-up stage, very valuable resources remain among the membership benefits. Perhaps at the top of these is the camaraderie among the members. I especially look forward to attending the Annual Retreat for the opportunity of renewing friendships and making new acquaintances. The Garrett community is unparalleled among other planning professional groups in terms of fostering a true sense of caring and sharing. There are other solid reasons why I remain a member as well. The opportunities for helping to stay abreast of current developments in the profession and my continuing education credits are valuable perks, and new opportunities are added each year. One of the more valuable ones has been the professional business planning initiative that’s been made available to us at no additional cost to our membership dues.

The fee-only movement is the fastest growing segment of the planning community. The media focuses more and more attention on advice that is free from compensation conflicts each year. Sheryl’s leadership has the Network positioned to continue to excel in this regard and I want to continue to benefit from that growth and business development. For all these reasons and more, that’s why I remain a Garrett member today, several years after launching my practice.”
