Hi, this is Justin Nichols and I host the monthly Garrett Technology Calls.

On these calls I answer general technology questions, discuss current technology recommendations and have periodic guest speakers on different timely technology solutions.

The topics for these calls are based on Garrett member feedback. For example, if I keep hearing the same technology related question come up over and over again, then I’ll try to build a monthly call around that question or topic. I also periodically ask the membership what they would like me to focus on.

I’ll give you a few examples of some calls that we’ve had…

I’ve presented a call on how to set up a paperless office. Many of our advisors are trying to get away from organizing and storing hundreds of physical file folders so we talked about the specific steps they should take if they would like to go paperless and store everything electronically.

We’ve had a couple of related calls on email marketing software and e-newsletters with advisor content. We first talked about some email marketing software programs that are easy, efficient alternatives to using snail mail. For example, if an advisor wanted to send out an annual holiday letter to clients, prospective clients, centers of influence, etc., he or she may want to communicate that letter via email instead of sending out a physical mailing.

The following month Marie Swift, our Marketing Communications Coach, joined me and we spoke about some great e-newsletter options that are available to advisors that already have some great financial planning advisor content ready for them to reuse. So instead of having to write all their own content for a newsletter, advisors can borrow and reuse some content that is already available. And to send out their e-newsletters they can use one of the email marketing software alternatives that we talked about previously.

We’ve also talked about computer backup systems, PDF software and server and file storage alternatives, to name a few.
